Paul makes it emphatically clear that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest treasure of a Christian’s life. The gospel focuses hearts on the perfect character and saving power of God. For this reason, Paul challenges Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:8-14 not to be ashamed of the testimony of the Lord but rather to treasure the gospel to the extent he would be willing to suffer for it. Because the gospel transforms and reorients every aspect of a Christian’s life as a citizen in His eternal kingdom, believers must have clarity about what the gospel is and the ability to share this message of grace with others.

For people to know, believe, and grow in this “good news” about life in Christ, followers of Jesus need to have the desire and ability to share the gospel of the kingdom with those who have not yet trusted in Him. Sharing the truth of the gospel and how you came to know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord is an invaluable tool. Your testimony can present the gospel in a clear and personal manner. Sharing your testimony, whether in a few minutes or for an extended time, enlightens the unbeliever on how they too can know Jesus Christ and encourages the saints with an additional story of the power of the gospel (Rom. 1:15-17). Chapter 2 of LIFE-Giving Discipleship helps you grow in knowing the greatness of the gospel and guides you to develop the skills needed to share it competently with others.
