Growing into the fullness of maturity in your relationship with Christ occurs when the truth of Scripture is lived out in the power of His Spirit and in the joy of living in His truth and grace. In 2 Timothy 3:15-17, the Apostle Paul describes how God brings transformation in His people through the revelation and application of His word.

When Jesus commissioned His followers to “make disciples,” He sent them on a mission to develop spiritual maturity personally and in other people’s lives as they presented the gospel of the kingdom of God and the truth of Scripture.

Just as parents are engaged in the ongoing process of developing maturity in their children, God is involved in bringing about maturity in His children. Chapter 11 in LIFE-Giving Discipleship introduces the “Maturity Tree,” which memorably and effectively illustrates how God brings about spiritual growth and health in the lives of His people by comparing a tree’s development with a Christian’s spiritual growth.
